Venerdì 6 Febbraio 2015 alle ore 18.00 Studio SALES di Norberto Ruggeri è lieto di presentare la prima personale di Davide Monaldi (San Benedetto del Tronto, 1983, vive e lavora a Roma).
La produzione artistica di Davide Monaldi inizia con il disegno ed è caratterizzata da due fasi ben distinte: nella prima ricerca costantemente immagini complesse che esigono un uso ridondante del colore; nella seconda abbandona leccesso per arrivare ad una estetica minimale che trova nelladozione di uno stile pulito e semplice, dominato dai bianchi e neri, la sua dimensione naturale. Con il tempo lespressione artistica di Monaldi non trova più nel segno grafico una sua identità. Spinto dalla volontà e dallesigenza di confrontarsi con la tridimensionalità dal 2010 inizia a lavorare con largilla realizzando opere in ceramica. Materiale duttile e malleabile, largilla permette allartista di proseguire sulla linea della sottrazione, iniziata con la seconda fase di produzione del disegno, dando vita a sculture che esemplificano lessenza del minimo. Nelle sue opere Davide Monaldi si concentra sullessenzialità più che sugli aspetti decorativi superflui: nel mio lavoro cè una reazione verso tutta la decorazione ridondante e soffocante che vela la semplice verità. Io punto allessenziale nascosto. Le sculture ritraggono solitamente personaggi comuni, spesso repliche di se stesso, oggetti di uso quotidiano e banale, reinterpretati con una vena paradossale.
UnIronia Noir percorre tutta la sua produzione e molte delle sue opere raccontano qualcosa di micidiale ed anticonformista: nelle mie opere capita spesso di raccontare storie maledette, ma sempre con il sorriso sulle labbra. Con pochi gesti Monaldi da vita ad opere che sono solo apparentemente semplici e didascaliche, ma di profondo impatto psicologico. L’aspetto artigianale, luso sapiente del mezzo, la conoscenza profonda e meticolosa della tecnica sono elementi fondanti nella sua produzione, tanto che :a volte il processo di lavorazione è il concetto dietro il lavoro stesso. Davide Monaldi rivaluta e rinnova radicalmente luso della ceramica nellarte contemporanea, tecnica spesso relegata in un panorama artistico contemporaneo decorativo e di secondo piano. Per questa prima personale lartista presenta una serie di lavori in ceramica che esprimono pienamente il processo creativo e le molteplici influenze che caratterizzano le opere di Davide Monaldi. La mostra è accompagnata da un testo critico di Saverio Verini (curatore indipendente, attualmente collabora con la Fondazione Ermanno Casoli).
On Friday 6th of February 2015 at 18.00 pm Studio SALES di Norberto Ruggeri is proud to inaugurate the first solo show in the gallery of Davide Monaldi (San Benedetto del Tronto, 1983, lives and works in Rome).The artistic production of Davide Monaldi starts with graphic art and it is characterized by two distinct phases: in the first one he constantly searches complex images that require an excessive use of color; in the second one he turns away from the “excess” in order to reach a minimal aesthetic in which he opts for a “clean and simple” style, dominated only by black and white. But eventually the artistic expression of Monaldi can no longer find its identity in the previous graphic style. Driven by the desire and the need to confront himself with three-dimensionality, starting from 2010 he begins to work with clay creating ceramic works. The clay, a ductile and easily manipulable material, allows the artist to continue in the line of subtraction, that started with the second phase of the drawing production. Monaldi can now finally create sculptures that exemplify the essence of the minimum. Davide Monaldi, in his works, gives importance to primary and essential elements, rather than any unnecessary decorative aspect: “in my work there is a reaction to any redundant and suffocating adornment, that veils the simple truth. I aim for the essential that is always hidden”. His sculptures usually portray ordinary characters, frequently copies of himself, everyday and banal objects, but reinterpreted with a paradoxical vein. A Noir Irony runs through all his production and many of his works tell something of “deadly” and nonconformist: “My works often tell cursed stories, but always with a smile.” Through few simple gestures Monaldi produces sculptures that only at first glance are simple and didactic. As they are, in fact, characterized by a component of profound psychological impact. The artisanal aspect, the wise use of the medium, the deep and meticulous knowledge of the technique are key elements of his work :”sometimes the process is the concept behind the work itself.”
Davide Monaldi reevaluates and renews out the use of ceramics in contemporary art, a technique often relegated only into a decorative artistic panorama, and in a lower level of the contemporary art scene. In occasion of his first solo show in the gallery, the artist presents a series of ceramic works that fully express the creative world and process as well as the multiple influences that deeply characterizes the practice of Davide Monaldi.
The exhibition is accompanied by an essay by Saverio Verini (indipendent curator, he currently collaborates with the Ermanno Casoli Foundation).
